ProCoustic Has Earned License to the Works With WELL Trademark

(Holbrook, MA, 5/11/2023) – ProCoat announced today its eligibility of the Works with WELL trademark for its ProCoustic product through a licensing program offered by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The new trademark demonstrates that ProCoustic aligns with two health strategies pertaining to coating and to the restriction on lead and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) within the WELL Building Standard (WELL).

WELL is the world’s leading standard that focuses on advancing people’s health and well-being with a library of holistic, evidence-based strategies applicable across buildings, organizations and communities. Developed over 10 years and backed by the latest scientific research, WELL outlines key building-level interventions and organizational strategies across 10 concept areas: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind and Community.

ProCoat’s ProCoustic works to support the WELL Building Standard’s WELL v2 Materials concept and aligns with two features, material restrictions and VOC restrictions. Specifically, ProCoustic is aligned with feature X01, part 3, which seeks to restrict lead. It is also aligned with feature X06, part 1, which limits VOCs from wet-applied products. These alignments mean ProCoustic lead and VOC specifications are aligned with the WELL requirements and can contribute to the achievement of the WELL features.

“I am thrilled to see ProCoustic become a licensed Works with WELL product. This alignment validates the quality and reliability of our technology, and it further strengthens our commitment to providing innovative solutions that improve people’s lives.”

                                                                                                               Lisa Schwartz, President of ProCoat.

IWBI granted the license to ProCoat to use the Works with WELL trademark after the company submitted an application to IWBI and underwent a third-party document review to confirm that the specific products and features met the requirements for the license given by IWBI.

From its humble beginnings in 1983, ProCoat became the pioneer of acoustical ceiling tile restoration with their product ProCoustic. ProCoustic is a non-bridging, water-based and VOC compliant coating. It maintains acoustical properties and improves fire retardant properties while making old ceiling tiles brighter than new tiles.

In recent years, ProCoat has focused on sustainability and has developed environmentally friendly products that are both effective and sustainable. ProCoustic’s lead and VOC specifications are aligned with WELL thresholds and are validated to use the Works with WELL trademark. This means that the product can help projects to achieve the following WELL features:

X01, Material Restrictions, part 3, Restrict Lead

ProCoustic is aligned with this feature because it has been deemed free of lead by an ISO 14024-compliant (Type 1) Ecolabel, or a voluntary third-party certification program recognized by the local government where the building is located.

X06, VOC Restrictions, part 1, Limit VOCs from Wet-Applied Products

ProCoustic is aligned with this WELL strategy because it meets the threshold set by 2019 CARB SCM for Architectural Coatings, and it has been tested by Berkeley Analytical to meet California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method V1.2. Thus, WELL projects can count areas covered by ProCoustic toward the 75% area threshold required by X06.1b.

The alignment between ProCoustic and the WELL features demonstrates ProCoat’s commitment to advancing products and solutions that support human health and well-being. In addition, ProCoat is now an IWBI member, joining a network of global brands excited to support the WELL movement by sharing expertise and solutions that advance people’s health and well-being.

Launched in 2022, the Works with WELL trademark licensing program recognizes products and solutions that contribute to achieving specific features in the WELL Standard. The Works with WELL trademark indicates specific alignment between an eligible product and at least one WELL feature or threshold, thereby informing the market of solutions available to support organizations advancing people-first places. Eligibility to use this trademark does not suggest products with this distinction guarantee the achievement of WELL Certification, a WELL Rating or any standalone WELL feature.

Driven by the global demand for healthier organizations that support people to thrive, WELL adoption has grown exponentially since its launch in 2014. As of April 2022, WELL strategies have been used in 4.6 billion square-feet of spaces, supporting the health and well-being of an estimated 22 million people in more than 41,000 locations spanning over 120 countries.
